Meet the team
The Indoor Swim team
Katie - (she/her)
I’m Katie she/her and I found Fat Community through swimming and it has been life-changing. I love singing, Kayaking, and raising my dog! I’m passionate about community building and accessibility, and I volunteer for SFS to give back to a community that has gifted me so much!
Karin - pronounced CAR-in (she/they)
Karin - pronounced CAR-in (she/they) loves being fat in water and is happy to be a part of continuing fat swims in Seattle. Karin is a pet parent (please tell them all about your pets) who works in harm reduction and loves women’s sports.
Prism (they/them)
Prism's engagement with fat liberation started in 2019. They've always been hungry to find like-minded people, and are super excited to help host events for fat people to find community.
The Outdoor Swim team
Kelcey (they/she)
I stumbled into this community completely on accident and couldn’t be happier that I did. I thrive outside and in the water, and believe that reducing barriers to those spaces is important decolonization work. My hope with Fat Swim is that we can continue cultivating and growing a magical space for our fat and queer community. I also host the clothing swaps during the summer fat swims, there is something really neat about seeing your friends and community members finding joy in clothing.
Sami (they/she)
Hey! I'm Sami. I'm a queer fat liberationist that has a deep passion for community care and development. I joined the fat swim team because fat community has been a literal lifesaver. I have been fat my entire life and grew up with the belief it was always something to fix. The first fat swim I walked into fundamentally altered my brain chemistry in such a way that I want to be apart of making that environment accessible to every fat that desires it. We're in a volatile climate currently, but we can always lean on each other. Come see me and the wonderful Outdoor team Megan and Kelcey sometime during the summer, or our wonderful Indoor team the rest of the year; Katie, Prism and Karin, and be in some rich community together.
Megan (she/her)
Hi I’m Megan, I started hosting Fat Swims at my home to cultivate a place for fat community to gather. I love watching fat and queer joy and love being able to provide that space. I joined the fat swim non profit board to continue building that community. I run Nature’s Twist with my husband and you can find us around town at all the fat and queer events!
